One of downtown?s most unique-action sporting events will take place in Los Angeles over the weekend of June 24-27, 2004, when 16 of the best professional squash players living in America, representing 13 different states, will compete for the title of 2004 EBG United States Squash Racquets Association Men?s Professional Squash Champion. In addition, there will be eight skill divisions contested for the Southern California amateur squash playing community.

Squash was first played in England more than 100 years ago and is now a popular sport in more than 120 countries. There are 15 million squash players worldwide and nearly a half-million in America. Squash in contested in all the major international multi-sport regional and Pan American Games and is on the list of sports applying for inclusion in the Olympics.

Hosted over the last five years by The Los Angeles Athletic Club, the event promises to provide exciting performances by these 16 professional athletes. This year, in addition to The LAAC venue, a spectacular and unique four-walled, all-glass show-court, fresh from its appearance at New York?s Grand Central Terminal and Boston?s Symphony Hall, will be constructed and placed center-stage at Macy?s Plaza on Seventh Street for FREE public viewing. The eight amateur-division preliminary rounds will be played at The LAAC?s four courts. ALL the professional matches and amateur finals will be played at the Macy?s Plaza venue on the all-glass show-court, Sunday, June 27th. A detailed schedule of matches is posted in the Plaza?s mall.
