Epstein Becker & Green continues in its 11th year as Title Sponsor of The USSRA United States Men’s Professional Squash Championships
March 18, 2004
George P. Sape, Managing Partner for the multi-city law firm of
Epstein Becker & Green, announced today, “Following the long and successful 10-year history of this USSRA National event hosted by
The Los Angeles Athletic Club, we are again proud to offer our support as Title Sponsor of this unique Championship.”
“This is the only tournament in the nation where the top 16 United States Squash Racquets Association, nationally ranked professional squash players residing in America, citizens or not, regardless of age, may compete head-to-head in one event for decent prize money…without having to go up against the World Tour players,” said Bob Hanscom, LAAC Squash Professional and Tournament Director. Hanscom reiterated, “The concept is simple…this is a Squash Championship event held only for those professionals who reside in the U.S. and have committed themselves to making a contribution to, and improving the level of squash in America.”
“This should be a particularly exciting year,” said Hanscom. “We now have a number of former “world-class” players living and/or working as professionals here in America…and we expect most of them to participate in our 2004 event. Some of those include former World Champion, Brett Martin, (Australia) CT; former world #4,
Chris Walker, (England) CT.; former world #7, LAAC member Stefan Casteleyn, (Belgium) CA.; Damian Walker, (England) CT; Pan American Games Gold-Medal winner, Jamie Crombie, (Canada) the 2003 EBG Champion, OH; Julian Wellings, former top Australian; and LAAC member, Ronen Goldberg, five-time Israeli National Champion and Maccabiah Game Gold Medalist. Truly…a most outstanding field of competitors!”
The event, scheduled for June 24-27, 2004, co-sponsored by Feather Sports and JIVAGO Fragrances, will also feature unique awards for the local amateur squash-playing community as well…CASH! The fact that “Squash” is an “open” sport, where “amateurs” (excluding college players) may accept cash awards, a “prize-money” pool has been created for the winners of every round in each of the eight amateur divisions offered. Feather Sports products will be presented to the “plate” winners and finalists, with JIVAGO Fragrances being presented to all winners.
