Casteleyn Claims US Pro title
June 27, 2004
Belgium's top seed Stefan Casteleyn claimed the EBG US Pro title in Los Angeles, beating fifth seed Patrick Chifunda 15-9, 15-8, 15-11 in the final on the glass court in Macy's Plaza.
Casteleyn, who also won the championship in 2000, enjoyed an easier route to the final, where Chifunda's earlier exploits caught up with him.

Chifunda & Casteleyn
in US Pro Final
The speed and quickness of Patrick Chifunda continues to frustrate his opponents - this time stopping Karim Yehia's bid to make the finals of this year's EBG USSRA Men's Professional Squash Championships on the glass court at Macy's Plaza in downtown L.A. Yehia had upset second seed Mark Heather in yesterday's quarter finals, looked like he could fend off fifth seed Chifunda...but it wasn't to be! Patrick believes that he can beat anyone. We'll see - in tomorrow's finals where he'll meet the favored #1 seed, Stefan Casteleyn who lost only the first game to fourth seed Clive Leach and then came back to win the match in very decisive fashion, three game to one.

Upsets at US Pros
Champs in Macy's
The first two major upsets in this year's Los Angeles EBG USSRA Men's Professional Squash Championships took place Friday afternoon during the quarter finals on the all-glass court in Macy's Plaza in Los Angeles.
The obviously very fit and prepared Karim Yehia of New York defeated the #2 seed, Mark Heather in a long battle of amazing retrieving and shot-making, advancing to Saturday's semi-finals.
Likewise, #3 seed Ben Howell went down to one of the quickest players in the game, Patrick Chifunda, who will play Yehia in the semis at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
